Key to maintaining reliable Wi-Fi is continuous monitoring to identify patterns and issues. Is the issue limited to a particular website(not a Wi-Fi problem), at a specific time of the day, or to a certain location in the house? Once you identify the patterns, you can then take steps to address the root causes. This could involve optimizing router placement, adding Wi-Fi extenders, or changing the channel on which your Wi-Fi operates.

Pick Small Business and Enterprise Routers

Certain Wi-Fi routers have built-in monitoring features, often found in small business or enterprise models. In contrast, consumer-grade routers might not offer this capability, as reliability is often perceived as less crucial for non-business users.

Over the years, I’ve experimented with various routers from both well-known brands and smaller manufacturers. This is particularly important if your workspace extends over a larger area, requiring more than one router or access point (AP). In larger homes or areas with multiple floors, a single router often cannot cover the entire area effectively.

Seamless roaming ensures your device automatically switches to the strongest Wi-Fi signal as you move around. This means you could be on a video call while moving from your desk to the kitchen without experiencing any disconnection or signal drop. You also need to consider the overall cost of Controller, Router, Switches if you are tied to the entire ecosystem like Omada.

Ease of Use

The router’s software interface should be user-friendly, allowing you to quickly and easily change settings, monitor network usage, and troubleshoot issues. Some routers even offer mobile apps for convenient network management.
